Madame Lenormand Gypsy Tarot Deck

23.45 €

The Gypsy Tarot Card Deck, popularly known as the Petit Lenormand (or simply Lenormand), is one of the most known and used oracles in the world, originating in 19th-century France. Although frequently called “Gypsy Tarot” in Portugal and Brazil, it is technically an Oracle, with a structure and reading system very different from the classic 78-card Tarot.

The deck is named in honor of Marie Anne Lenormand (1772-1843), a famous French cartomancer who predicted important events during the French Revolution and allegedly advised figures such as Napoleon Bonaparte and Joséphine de Beauharnais.

Description

Structure and Characteristics

The Lenormand distinguishes itself through its simplicity and direct clarity:

Number of Cards: It is composed of 36 cards (or, in some versions, 32). Iconography: The cards use simple and very clear images, which represent everyday objects, people, and concepts (Ship, House, Dog, Letter, Book, etc.). Connection with Playing Cards: Each Lenormand card is associated with a playing card (Ex: The Heart is the Jack of Hearts, The Bear is the Ten of Clubs). This connection adds a layer of meaning and allows for faster readings.

Popularity as “Gypsy Tarot”

In many cultures, this deck has become synonymous with “gypsy fortune-telling” (cartomancia cigana) due to its practical nature, speed, and traditional use by itinerant communities for divination. The Lenormand is valued for its objectivity, clarity, and capacity to predict concrete everyday events, serving as a powerful complementary or alternative tool to the more psychologically focused Tarot.
