Spiritual Properties and Use in Smudging

Jurema is known as the Plant of Mysteries and Science (or Wisdom), and its smudging has specific and profound objectives:

1. Intense Cleansing and Unburdening (Descarrego)

• Function: Jurema smoke is used to unburden (cleanse) environments, people, and objects of very dense energies, hexes (quebrantos), negative magic, and unwanted spiritual influences. It is a first-line herb for purification.
• Property: It acts by cleansing the astral fields and promoting an immediate energetic rebalance.

2. Spiritual Connection and Elevation

• Function: Jurema is the central element that connects the practitioner to the Spiritual Plane of Jurema (the “Juremal”), a metaphysical realm inhabited by the Masters and Juremeiro Caboclos (entities of healing and wisdom).
• Property: It facilitates meditation, intuition, and contact with ancestry and spiritual guides, serving as an important vehicle for the expansion of consciousness.

3. Protection and Strength

• Function: After cleansing, the Jurema incense (often combined with other herbs like Rue/Arruda, Guinea Hen Weed/Guiné, and Rosemary/Alecrim) creates a layer of protection and strengthens the individual’s aura.
• Property: It is considered the “plant of good business” by some, attracting positive influences and vitality to the entrance of homes or businesses.
